Nintendo DSi jumps on 3D bandwagon
Here’s something that I didn’t expect to see, but is very refreshing all the same. Next week Nintendo will ship Rittai Kakushi e Attakoreda, a game that challenges you to find a hidden 3D image. But the DS doesn’t have a 3D display, so how is this going to work? Well, it turns out that by taking advantage of the DSi’s camera’s ability to track the users position, a very impressive 3D image can be can be displayed which then changes depending on your angle of viewing.

Professor Layton and the Diabolical Box
Reviewers for the new Professor Layton and the Diabolical Box were given a bit of an unboxing shock to find the package completely empty! But in the spirit of the game, most people would probably guess that there was some kind of trick involved — and indeed that turned out to be the case.
Check out some pictures below from the folks over at Joystiq showing the details of their unboxing adventure! Stay tuned for the Diabolical Box Trailer at the bottom of the page. Read the rest of this entry »
Nintendo Hires Warner’s Anti-Piracy Guru
We ninjas have never been fans of pirates, but we’re not a fan of this move by Nintendo to bring in so-called “digital expert” Neil Boyd as their new anti-piracy czar. While a name like Neil Boyd does buy him significant geek-cred, we’re not impressed by some of the actions that he’s reportedly taking.
Referring to R4 and other similar cards as piracy equipment is analogous to calling a blank CD piracy equipment. And of course when blank CDs hit the market years ago we heard the same rumblings from the music industry that we’re hearing from guys like Boyd now. Flash cards are perfectly legitimate as long as they are used for storage or homebrew game/app development.
While I believe Nintendo has a right to protect it’s IP, I think they’d be far better off hiring a team of ninjas instead of a bunch of legal-talkin’ scumbags. MCV mentions that Boyd is urging internet service providers to “put more pressure on consumers they know are illegally downloading games.”
That would be a bonehead move if I ever saw one. What Nintendo needs to do is focus more on developing DSiWare and their digital delivery service and phase out game cartridges altogether. That’s the solution at the end of the tunnel. No need to cherry pick cash in the courts via litigation when you should be innovating a pirate-proof game delivery system.

Upload Photos to Facebook from your DS
Here’s an interesting new feature for the DSi courtesy of the recent version 1.4 firmware upgrade. Users now have the option of uploading photos to Facebook.com. It’s really good to see the DS making the jump from just a plain ol’ gaming device to another interface for your favorite online networks. Check out some of the pictures below.

Cool Transformers Kit for the DS
I’ve contracted the epidemic that has been plaguing the world. Yes, I’ve contracted Transformers fever and the highly infectious Megan Fox infatuation syndrome. After watching the second movie, I started to go bonkers for Transformers. I started searching everything and anything about Transformers; Transformers action figures, t-shirts, DVD’s, video games, memorabilia, character profiles, story lines, voice actors, animators — you get the idea.
Then I stumbled upon this awesome Transformers Kit for the Nintendo DS. Check it out:

The kit is developed by PDP. The cover serves as a protective armor for your DS and the stylus is modeled after Bumblebee and Megatron. The stylus alone looks so cool. Each stylus costs around $11 at Amazon and each kit costs around $20 at Gamestop.
Be warned though, after attaching the Transformers Kit on your Nintendo DS, there is a possibility that it may transform into a hostile alien robot.
The only thing missing now is a cure for the Megan Fox infatuation syndrome.

Black Mamba is running out of trees to jump on and would like to plant some more. You can help support his tree planting by purchasing DS Transformers Weapon Stylus – Bumblebee and DS Transformers Weapon Stylus – Megatron
through our Amazon Affiliates Link.
Nintendo DS dominates video game market
As of June 20 2009, VGChartz.com reports that the Nintendo DS is fly-kicking every console in the butt. The DS appeal to casual gamers and kids is apparent based on worldwide sales. Another Nintendo console, the Wii, is second place behind the DS followed by Microsoft’s X-box 360, Sony’s PSP and the PlayStation 3.
Nintendo is really making up for the failure of their GameCube console. It just comes to show that casual gamers still outnumber hardcore gamers in the video game market.
As for me, I’m a tweener gamer. I play casual games to relax and hardcore games to experience top-notch HD graphics and sounds. I’m a ninja so it means I can be whatever gamer I want. Only the weak can’t be tweener gamers.
Now, let me continue ripping chicken heads off with my bare feet.

R4 Users are Terrorists?
Yes, terrorists. That according to Yukata Kubota, the current head of the Copyright Association for Computer Software in Japan in an interview he did with Famitsu:
The fact is that you can download any Nintendo DS game as much as you want, so there’s no way to even calculate the damage. This is an issue that affects our national interests, and personally, I see it as a form of information terrorism that is crushing Japan’s industry.
. . .
it is not explicitly against the law” in Japan presently for individuals to buy a flash-ROM cart and download commercial DS software for it. However, a revised copyright bill currently working its way through legislation in Japan would make it an express offense to download unauthorized, copyrighted audiovisual content, as opposed to offering it for sale.
Nintendo DS Twitter App
While most of you probably don’t need another twitter platform, there are likely a few of you out there who spend more time using the Nintendo DS than you do on a personal computer. And if that’s the case DS Twitter might be for you. And now is as good a time as any to try it out, because this new version has significantly improved data download times in comparison to the previous version. Read the rest of this entry »
Lime Green DS and Case here for Mother’s Day
File this under things that your mother probably won’t dig so much. But I can see women in the late 20s to early 30s bracket jumping for this one. Especially if they’ve popped out some offspring already and thus feel that the promotion is particularly fitting for them. This lime green DS comes bundled with the ever popular Cooking Mama title, as well as a matching lime green carrying case/purse. Cute… Read the rest of this entry »
Bringing the DS into the Classroom
The Osaka Board of Education recently made big news with the announcement that they would experiment with Nintendo DS consoles as a part of in-class learning in many of their schools. Given the recent success of games like Brain Age this makes perfect sense. It took educators a little while to catch on, but it’s good to see them finally recognizing the potential of the DS.
